The Dutch Steps is a housing block that aims to create a multigenerational, living-working environment. It incorporates student, starter, and family housing in a complex space that balances recreation, working, and consumer functions in order to allow these different parties to not only live together, but improve the quality of life of the community as a whole.

For the final semester at Taubman College, one undergraduate studio took on a more theoretical approach to architecture, creating a utopian, urban development. Divided into teams, partners created siteless critiques of today's society and corporate structures, producing holistic systems that would replace these dated programs in tomorrows communities.

Cuddyhunk Winds
UG3 - Malcolm McCullough, Fall 2020
Presentation Board
Island Winds was a studio project that required more flexibility than ever before expected. Being fully remote due to Covid-19, one priority of our studio was to preserve the lateral learning that was being missed not being together on campus. Another was to create a language of architecture that was sufficient, sustainable, and resistant, acknowledging the importance of certain aspects of design over others and creating a project that spoke clearly and concisely.

PPR Competitive Boathouse
Presentation Board
Semester two changed gears and pushed us to look deeper into a project. Tasked with designing a boathouse through a system of bays, we prioritized having all design decisions reflect a single driving topic and for this topic to be legible at even the smallest scale.

The first semester of Taubman College undergraduate studios focused heavily on translations. We sought to find the limits of how far form can evolve before it changes vocabulary. Additionally, we aimed to discover successful ways of manipulating massing to produce provocative results while slowly adding context and function to our designs.
